Why Hire a Coach?
I won't know the answer to this question until we've talked. Perhaps the best way to explain this is to compare life coaching to sports coaching. Have you ever heard of a really successful athelete who isn't working with a coach? Obviously team efforts depend on the coach to bring them together and keep them working as a team. However, gymnasts, tennis players, golfers, ice skaters--the list goes on and on--these individuals want and need a coach to help them plan, make the most of their practice, provide independent observation of their actions, help them focus, urge them forward, and do many other things. Individuals in the business world began to see the value of this type of coaching tailored for business people some years ago and now it is something that has become available to individuals as well. Some individuals want a coach to encourage and support them as they work toward a specific goal. Others want a coach to help them make a specific plan and then stick by them as they execute that plan, providing support and the occasional reminder to stay focused on the important things. When you come to me for coaching YOU set our agenda. You may want to bring more of something into your life--or perhaps you want less of something. We look at the situation and consider the alternatives that will obtain the desired result. Together we make a plan that pleases YOU, and then I coach you as you work through your plan. Some people want coaching because they feel they're stuck in life. They have little passion about what they are doing and want to bring passion back into their life. Others want to advance in their career, but aren't sure what to do. Then there are the people who feel it is time to make a major change in their life, but the prospect terrifies them and they need to work with a coach to figure out where they want to go and the best path to take. Amazingly, some of the most successful people have discovered that having an independent person who is totally behind them gives them a great sense of empowerment. A coach is not your "YES" man. A good coach will not tell you what you want to hear, but rather what you need to hear. The whole purpose is to help you accomplish your goal.
