Life coaching has become very popular in our society during the past few years. Today many corporations are hiring coaches to work with their executives and often to help new employees adjust to their positions and responsibilities. There are many positive results being observed in these companies and the trend is rapidly growing.

Unfortunately, coaches--like everyone else--tend to draw on their own background and beliefs. Simply by typing "life coach" into any search engine you will retrieve a large number of websites that cover the entire spectrum of philosophies and beliefs. Many of the most successful and popular life coaches are committed to New Age beliefs and techniques. Some have obvious connections to various Eastern religions. That's fine for people who don't know any better, but as Christians we have been taught to look to the Bible for guidance. Just as many people today demand a 'god-free' world view, we have every reason to want a 'God filled' world view.

Do you remember taking geometry in school? That was where I first learned the concept of congruity. I learned that when one triangle could be laid over another and their angles and lines matched exactly, they were congruent.

In our lives, when what we believe agrees with what we do, we experience another form of congruity. It appeals to our sense of reason and consistency. It feels right and so we feel right.

Because I am a committed Christian, I look to the Bible for guidance in my own life and encourage the people I coach to do the same. I sincerely believe that no Christian can ever be truly happy and successful if they are not looking to God for guidance in all areas of their life. Why hire a coach?
